Rental Rules In Vail

Vail requires a Town short-term rental license before a home is advertised or operated. There is no townwide cap or waitlist. The emphasis falls on operating standards: insurance, inspection, and fast local response.

Three license structures: owner-managed, professionally managed, or 24/7 front desk
Self-managed homes need a local representative within 60 minutes, on call 24/7
At least $1 million in liability coverage must expressly cover rental activity
Most homes need a Town fire inspection and a notarized compliance affidavit
Complaints carry 30-to-60-minute response windows; a third violation suspends the license
Registration runs $50 to $260 by structure; the Town adds a 1.4% lodging tax
